Late Alhaji Haruna Lairan

2023

A master’s degree holder from the University of Birmingham, England, he was one distinguished patriot to have come out of Tangale.

Born in Jos, the late Mr. Lairan started his primary School in Jos finishing at the Gindiri Secondary School in 1974. He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University with a BSc in Political Science in 1977.

Mr. Lairan began his public service career with the Bauchi State Government in the Social Welfare Department. He later transferred to the Federal Civil Service where he worked in the Ministry of Industries, Salaries and Wages Commission, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs all in Abuja.

Mr. Lairan’s short stay in these places was characterized by his penchant for gaining employment for the less privileged in Tangale. He created ways for people into places like the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services. He was one man who was described as pure and detribalized, his generosity cuts across all sectors.

Though a Muslim, Lairan did not segregate in any way, he sees everybody as a friend, and his wife who is a Christian attested to this.

For his strong patriotic zeal for Tangale, he was conferred with the title of “Baraden Tangale” by the Mai Tangle Dr Abdu Buba Maisheru but was not turbaned until his demise.

He left behind a wife and 3 children.
